Telemedicine technology is key. Yet, I’ve written frequently in previous blog posts about our physicians’ “webside manner”—their skills in communicating with patients, families and hospital clinical staff. They are very good at making everyone comfortable with the telemedicine environment.
But they don’t go it alone. They are partners with hospital clinical staff who serve as their hands when consulting with, diagnosing, and treating patients.
They’re backed by state-of-the-art technology, too. It is why Eagle is a technology-enabled practice providing technology-enabled care. We are incredibly proud of our unique, proprietary cloud-based operating system we have developed to support our physicians and help them work more quickly and efficiently.
We call this telehealth platform ETHOS, which stands for “Eagle Telemedicine Operating System”.
ETHOS seamlessly addresses the four key elements of any telemedicine program:
- Connect
- Communicate
- Consult
- Care
Here are some of ETHOS’ critical functions.
Smooth operations regardless of your telemedicine technology
Since our physicians cover multiple facilities, we created ETHOS to help them easily make the transition from one hospital to another in their telemedicine rounds. Because each of these facilities is unique—with its own Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, its own vendor who provides the technology that runs videoconferencing carts, its own staff, resources and processes that define the care rendered there—we knew we needed to develop a support system so our physicians could quickly switch from one hospital to another in the course of a regular shift.
ETHOS enables our physicians to make one click with their computer mouse to select the hospital where they will be seeing patients. From that one click, they open pathways to important pieces of information and access points for that particular hospital. Resources, specialists, phone numbers and other contact information, practice patterns and guidelines that are adopted by the hospital for consistent care of common medical conditions—all of this is a click away in the ETHOS portal.
ETHOS also serves as a practice-management tool to track services rendered. From ETHOS, we compile reports for our partner hospitals on a regular basis with information about physician productivity, response times, number and types of consults and follow-up visits, etc. In addition, ETHOS provides secure faxing capabilities that allow our physicians to send and receive vital information during the course of patient treatment. Of course, ETHOS meets all HIPAA requirements for patient confidentiality and security.
Physicians don’t have to fight
In the practice of medicine, clinical care and technology are intricately connected. Telemedicine technology is vital to modern healthcare, but too much of it can be overwhelming and interfere with quality care. This is another reason we created ETHOS—to take the burden off our physicians so they can provide good care and have optimal job satisfaction while doing so. At Eagle, equipment and software do not get out in front but supports our providers to provide high-quality, personalized patient care.
Our goal is to make the activity that surrounds that care as seamless as possible for our physicians.
We do not know of any other telemedicine program that has a platform like ETHOS. Technology is ever-evolving, and we look forward to continuing to enhance the delivery of inpatient care.
At Eagle, together with our hospital partners, we are changing the world, one patient at a time.
